Girl Smiling Wearing BracesAt Martinez Orthodontics, our mission is to help our patients achieve beautiful, healthy smiles that last a lifetime. We're proud to offer a variety of high-quality orthodontic treatments like braces and Invisalign – but if you're suffering from jaw pain and abnormalities, orthognathic (jaw) surgery may be a powerful option for treatment. Combined with other orthodontic treatments, jaw surgery can be an effective way to correct facial abnormalities, treat malocclusions, and alleviate TMJ pain.

How Does Jaw Surgery Work?

Modern orthognathic surgery is a state-of-the-art procedure, and our office uses a variety of advanced medical technologies to help your surgeon and make the treatment process as smooth as possible. First, we use cutting-edge digital imaging technology to create a comprehensive 3D computer model of your mouth and bite, which allows us to plan the treatment and model how your jaw will look after the surgery. This detailed computer planning helps Dr. Martinez give a proper assessment, effectively, and conveniently, making the recovery process easier and giving us a more consistent result. We can also incorporate miniature titanium screws and plates, allowing us to stabilize the jaw and decrease recovery time.

Why Would I Need Jaw Surgery?

Jaw surgery is a more extensive form of treatment and isn't right for every patient, but for some, it's the best way to a beautiful new smile. You may need jaw surgery if you have any of the following problems:

  • Severe TMJ (jaw joint) pain
  • An unstable or compromised jaw
  • Severe malocclusion that can't be treated through braces alone
  • Developmental issues with the jaw
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Bone loss

Combined Treatment

For most patients, jaw surgery happens in conjunction with another orthodontic treatment, like braces. Combining treatments allows us to deliver the best possible result: we can treat issues that braces alone can't fix, but we also minimize the extent of the surgical procedure and recovery period by combining it with more traditional orthodontic treatment. Dr. Martinez will work with you to assess your needs, develop a treatment plan, and ensure you understand every part of the treatment process.
